This listing is for a rare and unusual half doll related item. She comes from my private collection and was part of a very large collection of half dolls and half doll related items that belonged to my grandmother. These little pieces were known as naughty novelties. There are references made to these in several of the half doll books and you can find information on them if you visit the website listed below. The following paragraph of information i obtained on a blog site. As the victorian era passed into the edwardian and roaring twenties, a market developed for bisque and china bawdy novelties and figurines of women in revealing outfits. Although now most of these figurines seem more coy and cute than ribald and risque, in their time they symbolized the casting off of the perceived restraints of the victorian era. These little lovelies included bathing beauties, who came clad in swimsuits of real lace or in stylish painted beach wear, as well as mermaids, harem ladies, and nudies, who were meant to wear nothing more than an engaging smile. Also produced were flippers, innocent appearing figurines who reveal a bawdy secret when flipped over, and squirters, figurines that were meant to squirt water out of an appropriate orifice. Most were manufactured in germany from the late 1800s through the 1930s, often showing remarkable artistry and imagination, with japan entering the market during world war i. References on the “squirter” may be found on page 130 of half-dolls price guide by sally van luven and susan graham. The half doll shown is a larger different version or the “squirter” and not nearly as well detailed. Please see last photo. This listing is for a’squirter or one that shoots water from each breast. These naughty novelties were not meant to be used as perfume bottles. Not only does the liquid squirt out a surprising distance in a stream, rather than a mist or spray, the fluid heads off in two different directions. Incised with numbers 4314 she is most definitely german made. There is also a red “5” on the bottom of her base. Very nice quality and exceptional detail. The detail in her facial features as well as her hair is nicely done. Even the blades of grass she appears to be hiding in have detailed lines in them. This naughty little lady is just 2.25 inches tall. I have tested her and she works just perfectly. It is amazing how far the water actually travels. There is a hole in the top of her head as photos show so that you can place a bulb on top to squeeze or you can visit the blog i have listed above to find other amusing uses for these rare and cute novelties. No chips, cracks, repairs. Please view all photos. This rare and unique piece would make a great addition to any collection. She would make the perfect conversation piece and a must have for half doll collector. I will always answer promptly. They are a large part of the description.
