A quick kokeshi history: a simple wooden doll with no arms or legs, kokeshi have been handcrafted for more than 150 years, originally made as a toy for children. Kokeshi were originally from the northeastern region (tohoku-chiho) of japan. It is said that these doll were made in the middle of the edo period (1600-1808). A simple trunk and head with a few painted lines to define the face. Bodies often have a floral or ring design painted mainly in red and black.
